How is FieldTurf made

THE ENGINEERED SYSTEM 

FieldTurf Tarkett has steer the green landscaping industry in the proper direction. With first-class manufacturing facilities, a carefully engineered product, tens of thousands of installations across North America, and the blessing of thousands of homeowners, business owners, athletes, coaches, and athletic administrators worldwide, FieldTurf Tarkett has brought “single source responsibility” and quality to the forefront with its manufacturing plant and lab. This has paved the road towards true innovation and customer service.

Making our unique 'fake grass' is a delicately engineered process. Here are the steps we take to create our artificial turf.

 

The fibers are tufted into the backing at a patented row width of 3/4” 1.jpg
The patented finger unit coats just the fiber rows for superior strength, leaving the rest of the backing fully porous for unmatched drainage

The finished carpet sections are laid on the field and sewn together. The turf is now ready for infilling.

The patented layering process begins with several lifts of clean, washed silica sand to stabilize and support the entire system.

A formulated mix of clean cryogenic rubber and silica sand are layered into the system.

Multiple layers of these same sized particles of cryogenic rubber and silica sand ensure proper energy restitution without compaction.

Up to twenty-one passes of layering ensures that the infill mix stays in suspension, neither segregating nor compacting.

The final layers are larger sized cryogenic rubber, which stays on top to ensure a safe, forgiving surface. The soft, rectangular fibers lay over to encapsulate the infill.
